St Mark’s Junior Church is held every Sunday, except during the Summer holidays.
Story telling, crafts and activities are laid on for the primary school children, mostly based around the lectionary readings, but also encorporating church seasons and social issues (such as fairtrade). At the end of the service, the children are invited to tell the rest of the congregation about what they’ve been discussing.
There is a monthly discussion for the older children, with material aimed specifically at their needs and interests. The rest of the time, the older children are welcome to stay in service or go downstairs with the junior church to help the leaders.
We have about 15 regular children, and are joined periodically by others. They range in age up to 16. The high school children have the opportunity of going to Glenalmond Youth Camp, run by the Scottish Episcopal Church’s Youth Network.
A range of other activities take place through the year, including the nativity play, outings and picnics, and helping prepare the church for special occasions.
The children go down to their activities during the first hymn and come back up for our communion. Roughly once a month there is an All Age Service, where the children play their part in the worship and we worship as one congregation together.
