We invite you to our special services over the Christmas season whether you are a returning visitor or this is the first time you have come to St Mark’s.

Sun 18th December 4th Sunday in Advent
10.30am Sung Eucharist
If you can’t make the Crib Service, this is a chance to see our Junior Church’s nativity play.

6.30pm Service of Lessons and Carols
Our service includes music and readings old and new for choir and congregation.

This service is for children and their friends and families of all ages.

Doors Open Day

St Marks will be open as part of Edinburgh’s Doors Open Day. We are venue number 5 in the North Edinburgh & Leith brochure.

We will be open from 10am to 4pm on Saturday only – please come and look around our historic church building! Of course we are also open to anyone who would like to come to our service at 10:30 on Sunday morning.

The church is accessible to wheelchair users via a ramp, and located within a few minutes’ walk of bus stops for the Lothian Buses 15 and 26, and First Bus 129 services.

While you are in Portobello, you may like to use the Portobello Architecture Heritage Trail to find other interesting buildings in the area. The Victorian Swimming Baths on the promenade, which can be reached from the road just opposite the church, are also open for Doors Open Day from 12 noon to 4pm.

Announcement: New Rector!

I am very pleased to confirm that the Revd. Sophia Marriage has accepted an invitation to become the next Rector at St Mark’s, Portobello. Sophia currently has 2 roles – one of Associate Rector of St Martin’s, Dalry Road and the other as Continuing Ministerial Oficer for the Diocese of Edinburgh. She will give up both roles to move to St Mark’s on a full-time basis. I am delighted that Sophia’s selection was the unanimous decision of the Vestry and we all look forward to welcoming her, and her family, to St Mark’s later in the year, and to supporting her ministry in Portobello in the coming months and years. Plans are now in hand for Sophia’s Institution, which will be held at 7:30pm on Tuesday, 22nd November.
